In the Cup
This natural-process Sidama from the celebrated Bensa district is a study in depth and complexity. Whole cherries are sun-dried on raised African beds for 18-22 days, developing layers of ripe stone fruit, bittersweet cocoa, and dried fig, with a wine-like body that carries a long, molasses-sweet finish. Produced by SCFCU, one of Ethiopia's most storied cooperative unions, the lot represents the best of Sidama's terroir: rich volcanic soils, consistent rainfall, and the high elevations of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Every bag is fully traceable to the Bensa district washing station where it was processed.
SCA Cupping Protocol
Evaluated by two independent SCA-certified Q-graders using a blind cupping protocol. Every attribute scored on a 10-point scale.
Total Score
87/100
Scored using the SCA Specialty Coffee Association cupping form. Attributes rated on a 6–10 point scale; uniformity, clean cup, and sweetness rated as 0 or 2 points per cup. Disagreements of more than 3 points trigger a third evaluator.

Sidama Zone, Bensa, Ethiopia · Est. 2001
The Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union is one of Ethiopia's largest and most respected unions, representing over 450 smallholder farms across the Sidama zone. Founded in 2001, SCFCU pioneered the direct export model that now enables Ethiopian cooperatives to bypass intermediaries and capture more value at origin. Their Bensa-district lots are legendary for deep stone-fruit sweetness developed through meticulous natural processing on raised beds at elevations exceeding 1,900 meters. The union operates a quality lab staffed by three licensed Q-graders and has invested in solar-powered drying infrastructure that reduces weather dependency. Premiums support a scholarship fund that has sent over 200 farmers' children to secondary school.
