In the Cup
Harar is where the story of commercial coffee began, and this traditional natural-process lot carries that history in every cup. Intensely fruity with explosive wild blueberry, deep mocha-chocolate undertones, and an earthy complexity that speaks to Harar's dry, rocky terroir. Produced by the Abidir Cooperative, whose 120 members practice the same sun-drying methods their ancestors used for centuries on the flat stone beds of West Hararghe. This is not a refined, polished coffee — it's a bold, characterful one, with a heavy body and dried fruit sweetness that makes it unforgettable. Grade 4 reflects Harar's traditional processing style rather than any quality deficiency; the cup speaks for itself.
SCA Cupping Protocol
Evaluated by two independent SCA-certified Q-graders using a blind cupping protocol. Every attribute scored on a 10-point scale.
Total Score
83/100
Scored using the SCA Specialty Coffee Association cupping form. Attributes rated on a 6–10 point scale; uniformity, clean cup, and sweetness rated as 0 or 2 points per cup. Disagreements of more than 3 points trigger a third evaluator.

Harari Region, West Hararghe, Ethiopia · Est. 1998
The Abidir Cooperative, named after Harar's ancient walled city, has been preserving Ethiopia's oldest commercial coffee tradition since 1998. Harar coffees predate the modern specialty movement by centuries — they were the original "Mocha" beans shipped from the port of Mocha in Yemen during the Ottoman era. The cooperative's 120 member farms cultivate traditional varieties on small plots scattered across the rocky hillsides of West Hararghe, where the dry climate and lower elevations produce a uniquely wild, fruity character unlike any other Ethiopian coffee. Processing is traditional natural: cherries are dried on flat stone or earthen beds in the open sun, developing the intense blueberry and earthy complexity that made Harar famous. Abidir invests premiums in water cistern construction, critical in this drought-prone region.
